Two members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) in the rank of Private were apprehended by for alleged assault and murder which occurred during a night concert on Friday at ’Mathabiseng Convention Centre.

According to LDF Public Affairs Officer (PAO), Lieutenant Colonel Mashili Mashili on Friday night at 'Manthabiseng Convention Centre, LDF member whose age is still not known got into a quarrel with another man where the soldier pulled out his gun which they fought over and ended up going off and hitting a man who was not part of the quarrel on the neck.
He stated that the victim has been transferred to Bloemfontein as he is in a critical condition saying that they are working together with the police and that investigations are still continuing while the suspect is in custody.
Meanwhile on the same night, another Private residing in Lithabananeg Ha Keiso stabbed his neighbour with a knife and the victim died instantly.
He explained that this happened after the deceased tried to intervene as the suspect and his wife were fighting.
He condemned the acts saying this shows lack of discipline especially since on Thursday just a day before the incidents LDF Commander Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela delivered his Christmas message in which he gave the officers strict instructions on how they should protect Basotho and their property during the festive season and refrain from being involved in acts of crime.
Meanwhile Lt. Col. Mashili mentioned that in their on-going festive operations they have managed to recover 117 stolen sheep at Makoatsi in Mokhotlong where he stated that nine people have been arrested and will appear in court soon.
He added that also in the district of Mokhotlong at Mapholaneng 16 sheep and nine donkeys were recovered saying that the donkeys had bags of dagga on but pointed out the suspects are still on the run.
