Quality systems for aviation launched

  • 16 December, 2018

Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS) is implementing Quality Management System (QMS) in which Lesotho shall seek ISO 9001:2015 Certification.

According to the statement from LMS, this is done to ensure that services and products provided to the aviation community meets standard requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
It indicates that QMS has become increasingly important in the field of meteorological services for international air navigation. It adds that the setting up of a properly organised quality system is to ensure a continued high quality of data and products provided by the aeronautical meteorological services.
It notes that QMS is a collection of business processes focused on consistently meeting customer requirements and enhancing their satisfaction. The statement highlights that QMS is aligned with an organisation's purpose and strategic direction (ISO9001:2015).
As part of this initiative, LMS determined stakeholders and customers that are relevant to QMS due to their effect or potential effect on LMS's ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirement.
The goal of LMS is to provide meteorological services that would contribute towards environmentally sound and sustainable socio-economic development of Lesotho.
It was created in 1974 as a division within the then department of hydrology and meteorological services.
