MASERU - Lesotho will host a two day forum on investing in human capital-multi-sectoral approaches to early childhood nutrition in Southern Africa from October 2.

According to the Food and Nutrition Coordinating Office (FNCO) Senior Information Officer, Ms. Nthabeleng Sefako, the forum will be attended by Heads of State and Government as well as Nutrition Experts from the Southern African countries.
She said King Letsie III will host the Heads of State and Government in his capacity as the African Union Nutrition Champion and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Special Ambassador for nutrition.
Ms. Sefako said the forum will discuss among others how stunting which is a major challenge in most African countries, Lesotho included could be addressed as it affected the health and education of children.
She added that the government and development partners will also be urged to invest in nutrition programmes to ensure that issues of food and nutrition are promoted for a healthier living of all people.
She clarified that on the first day of the forum, there will be a technical meeting of nutrition experts from Southern Africa while the second day will see the heads of state and government converging to share experiences and making commitments on how they are planning to promote nutrition issues in their respective countries.
The King was appointed the FAO's Special Ambassador for Nutrition in December 2016 at a high level symposium on sustainable food systems for healthy diets and improved nutrition.
