Palace employee charged with corruption

… she allegedly accepted M30k for awarding a tender
MASERU – Former employee of the Royal Palace, Mats’eliso Mabuea, 60, of Ha Ts’osane Maseru appeared briefly before the Maseru Magistrate Court charged with contravening the provisions of Section 21 (3) (b) of the Provisions of Corruption and Economic Offences Act of 1999 as amended.
The charge prepared by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) alleges that Mrs Mabuea was sometime in 2017 working as a Senior Administration Officer in His Majesty’s office and as such a public officer and that she intentionally abused the functions or position of her office and received M30,000 from one Molomo Molapo with the intention to obtain an undue advantage for herself.
Alternatively, Mrs Mabuea is charged with contravening the provisions of Section 21 (1) of same Act in that she corruptly, intentionally and unlawfully agreed to permit her public conduct as a public official to be influenced by a gift in the form of M30,000 from Molomo Molapo for awarding him tender to construct carports at the Royal Palace in Matsieng.
After her charges were read and explained to her, Mrs Mabuea asked for bail which she was granted on conditions that she pays a deposit of M1,000, attend remands on set dates and stand trial to finality.
She was also ordered not to interfere with crown witnesses and police investigations.
The crown informed the court that investigations in the case were complete and Resident Magistrate Polo Banyane ordered that the hearing of the case shall resume on December 3, 2018.
