Lesotho and eSwatini warm up for AFCON

MASERU – Lesotho’s senior soccer squad Likuena will square off against eSwatini’s Isihlangu Semnikati over two legs in an international warm up match to be played at Setsoto stadium on Sunday and Monday at 15h00 kickoffs.
Speaking in an interview, Likuena Team Manager Mr. Rantsubise Matete said the two games are part of both teams preparations for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in which Likuena will face Cape Verde on September 9 at Setsoto Stadium.
He said Likuena players would resume camp on Friday for the next three days before being released after their Monday clash against eSwatini.
Mr. Matete said Lesotho’s six international based players Ts’oarelo Bereng who has just been signed by ABSA Premier league side Black Leopards and his fellow players Luciano Matsoso and Tumelo ‘Makhopo’ Khutlang will join the squad.
He said the other foreign based players Ts’otleho Jane based in Cambodia and Lesia Thetsane who is plying his soccer trade in the United States of America would not be part of the players that will face Sihlangu.
When approached for comment, Likuena coach Mr. Moses Maliehe welcomed the fact that Bereng, who was playing for the South African National First Division has just signed for the premiership side.
He believed that the number of foreign based players will boost the senior national side’s performance in the AFCON qualifiers.
Mr. Maliehe promised to meet with Matlama FC management over three players Jane Thaba Ntso, Sera Motebang and Mabuti Potloane to decide what needs to be done, saying it will not be healthy for the players to be expected to play four competitive games.
In their opening match of the AFCON qualifiers, Likuena held Tanzania to a 1-1 draw away while Cape Verde lost 1-0 against Uganda in Group J.
Isihlangu will also be preparing to host Tunisia at home.
