Welkom police arrest Mosotho for illegal ammunition

MASERU – A 29-year-old Lesotho national got busted in Welkom, Free State for selling live ammunition by the Public Order Policing (POP) Reaction Team on Thursday July 19.
The media statement from the office of the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the Free State states that the POP Reaction Team were tipped from a Crime Intelligence Gathering about a Lesotho national selling live ammunition at Manny’s Shopping Complex in Welkom.
The police identified the suspect, approached and searched him. Live ammunition and cash were found in his possession and seized. The suspect was reportedly arrested and was said to be due for a court appearance tomorrow.
The 29 year old suspect is alleged to have had in his possession, a total of 44 rounds of live ammunition for various firearms plus nine pokes of dagga weighing 0.18 grams, and loose dagga weighing 0.74 grams as well as R990 in cash. The value of ammunitions seized is estimated at R4 500 while the street value of dagga is approximated at R500.
The suspect will be charged for illegal possession of ammunitions and dagga.
The Acting Cluster Commander of Welkom, Brigadier Mzondi Mojafi has congratulated the POP Reaction Team for their good work as they acted rapidly to the information despite being off-duty.
