Maseru (TNS) – Lesotho’s volleyball champions, Redskins, are preparing for the Zone 6 volleyball games to be held in Cairo, Egypt from March 26 to April 4, 2018. The Redskins men’s team will represent the Mountain Kingdom in the tournament.
This is the 16th time the national volleyball giants will be representing Lesotho in the Zone 6 competition. However, the Redskins have only won the gold medal once.
Speaking to Maseru Metro, the Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) Communication and Marketing Manager (CMM), Buller Phalatsi confirmed the developments. Phalatsi said the LVA, together with the Redskins team, finally managed to get funding for the Cairo trip.
“Yes, the only headache for us was to find money for the team to head to Egypt. I want to assure you that preparations are now underway and the team are looking sharp and ready for the tournament. They could not afford to miss out on the competition. Our aim is to bring back the second gold medal,” he said.
“The team has already registered for the games. Now, Redskins are focusing on training without any money worries. As the LVA, we are fully behind the Redskins and we wish them a safe journey and the best of luck at the competition.”
Meanwhile, the Redskins women’s team is training hard for their volleyball fixture that will commence this weekend. Redskins’ server, Nthati Mahasele said their mission was to start the season on a high. She said they are taking their training seriously as they look to maintain the fitness that will sustain them for the duration of the season.
“Yes, our men’s team will be heading to Cairo. What we will be doing as the women’s team is nothing other than training hard for our weekend fixture for the volleyball league,” Mahasele said.
“We are on a mission this time around. We want to achieve a lot of things. And to do that, we need to put in extra effort in training.”
