Likuena climbs up two places in FIFA rankings

Fresh from losing 4-3 in a seven goal thriller at the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) Castle cup against Zimbabwe’s Warriors, Likuena has moved two places upward at the current FIFA World rankings released on Thursday.
Likuena is currently taking part at the regional COSAFA Castle Cup going on in South Africa, where the team has played two games winning the first one 5-4 against Namibia at the quarter-finals before losing the seven goal thriller against Zimbabwe.
The next Likuena’s match is against Tanzania in a third place play off this coming Friday and East African side sits 114 places in the world and 30 in Africa while Likuena is now placed on 30th position in Africa and 138th on global list.
Likuena shares the ranking with Botswana even though the latter failed to win a single COSAFA game after losing 2-1 against Zambia at the quarter-finals and 2-0 against the host nation South Africa at the Plate Semi-final.
Zimbabwe which stopped Likuena from reaching the second COSAFA Castle Cup final since 2000, is ranked 101 in the global list and 27 in Africa while Egypt top the continent and is the highest African country at 24 in the world while new FIFA Confederations Cup champions Germany have leap frogged Brazil at the summit of the global list in 206 nations.
Besides taking part at the COSAFA Castle cup, Likuena has this year played against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars drawing 1-1 away in Dar-Es-salaam at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
