June 21 is Yoga international day

The Honorary Consul of India to Lesotho in collaboration with the Indian Association of Lesotho (IAL) have organised to commemorate International Day of Yoga on Sunday.
This according to a statement issued by the Association President, Mr. Biju Korah is an annual commemoration of June 21 fo which the public is invited to witness and enjoy and added that the first International Day of Yoga was observed the world over on June 21, 2015.
The Association was on the other hand established with the primary purpose of providing a cultural and educational platform for the Indian Diaspora in Lesotho to create and foster promotion of co-operation, collaboration and social and cultural integration between the people of Lesotho and the Republic of India and the event is among others aimed at fulfilling the objective.
To this effect June 21 was proposed as the day of commemoration because it was the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and the shortest in the southern hemisphere and by virtue of having special significance in many parts of the world and as such, from the perspective of yoga, the summer solstice marks the transition to the first full moon also considered a time when there is natural support for those pursuing spiritual practices.
The Indian Ministry of AYUSH meanwhile made the necessary arrangements during the first commemoration which saw about 35,985 people, including a large number of dignitaries from 84 nations, performing 21 yoga postures for 35 minutes at Rajpath, New Delhi.
The commemoration is marked in line with the United Nations General Assembly guidelines which set aside the aforementioned date as an appropriate one to commemorate per the advanced assertions.
