Horse racing club gets M100 000 sponsorship

Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB) on Friday handed over a M100,000.00 cheaque to Mohale’s Hoek Race Club as sponsorship for 2017 King Moshoeshoe II Memorial Cup.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held in Maseru, the MMB Managing Director Mr. Tom Mpedi stated that horse racing is one of Basotho brand adding that a horse is one of the items with which the nation is identified with. He indicated that the sport enables people to test their horses and ensure their fitness as well as competitiveness.
He remarked that as horse racing encompasses gambling, fashion and entertainment the MMB aims to improve it in the country and ensure that it is enjoyable. He expressed hope for continued partnership between the MMB and Mohale’s Hoek Horse Racing Club.
Also speaking at the same occasion, Vice President of the Mohale’s Hoek Horse Racing Club Mr. Motlatsi Russell acknowledged the sponsorship saying they are proud to receive it. He expressed hope for continued sponsorship and partnership between the Club and the MMB. He promised Basotho a more improved Race for this year.
Horse Racing in Mohale’s Hoek was founded by the late King Moshoeshoe II in the early 60’s with the aim to embrace the Basotho culture and tradition in a race day celebration to honour his lifelong ambition.
King Letsie III named a race held in Mohale’s Hoek two decades after the passing of his father King Moshoeshoe II, “King Moshoeshoe II Memorial Cup’ in his memory. The Cup is considered the Lesotho’s grandest horse racing gathering offering a unique and life changing cultural and traditional experience.
This year’s King Moshoeshoe II Memorial Cup is set for Saturday next week at Mohale’s Hoek. The MMB has been the leading sponsor of the Mohale’s Hoek Horse Racing events for more than 20 years.
MMB was established in 1982 and is an affiliate of AB InBev Company. It brews beer brands of AB InBev under license, and is a franchised bottler of the Coca-Cola company beverages.
