Hefty national soccer star who silenced critics about his un-athletic body is late

The former soccer players and coaches who had an opportunity to rub shoulders with the late Motlatsi Shale have described him as was a dedicated and hard working player who hated losing.
Speaking in an interview with some of them following his passing last week, Kabelo Mosothoane who played with Shale at the senior national team Likuena and FC Likhopo, described Shale as was a hard working and passionate player.
He said his critics despite him due to his hefty body but he proved them wrong as Shale used his body to his advantage where he was powerful and also possessed with skills.
On the other hand, Mpitsa Marai who also played with Shale from Liphakoe and through the ranks at under 20 to under 23 national teams up to the senior team Likuena, could not mince his words saying Shale’s death is a great loss not only to the football fraternity and the Lesotho Football Association but to the entire Basotho nation.
He said Shale was an asset to the country during his playing days and also as an aspiring coach who was destined for greatness.
He said Shale led Bantu to its first league title in 2014/15 season where they were working together until they went separate ways at the later stage.
Marai who now works as assistant coach of Likuena said they always shared a room with Shale while on international duty and also was his best man on his wedding.
“His death was a shock to me as a friend and colleague and will always remember him as a best friend who was outspoken and never shy to express his views,” he concluded.
Shale was one of many local players who plied their soccer trade not only in the country but went on to don the famous Bloemfontein Celtic coloures of green and white after being spotted by the late Dr. Rantlai ‘Whitehead’ Molemela.
Besides being a prolific striker who played for many premier league clubs like Matlama, FC Likhopo and Liphakoe as well as Majantja, Shale also coached many premier league sides like Bantu, Linare and FC Likhopo.
His burial is yet to be known.
