LDF members charged with murder

Maseru – Three members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) briefly appeared before the Maseru Magistrate Court on Friday charged with murder of Mohau Qobete in an incident that happened at the Ministry of Education and Training Headquarters in February 1, 2015.

Captain Litekanyo Nyakane, 38, of Corn Exchange Matholeng, Sengapha Kolotsane, 27, of Tsokung Mapoteng and Sele Mohobela, 27, of Lekokoaneng Ha-Mokhenene appeared before Magistrate ‘Mamorojele Qoo charged with contravening the provisions of Section 40 (1) read with Section 40 (2) and 26 (1) of the Penal Code Act of 2010.

On counts two, three, and four the trio are charged with attempted murder of Major Mojalefa Lawrence Mosakeng, Corporal Ngoliso Majara, and Halemakale Makhakhe.

From count five to 12, the trio are charged with malicious damage to property after they allegedly shot and damaged government vehicles – Toyota Quntum (registration number Y1959), Suzuki Jimmy (registration number X4662), Toyota Avanza (registration Y1032), Toyota Etios (registration number Y4324) – and a Peugeot (registration number CH844) owned by Dumisani Tshabalala.

The trio are again alleged to have damaged the buildings of the Ministry of Education and Training headquarters, Metropolitan Law firm, LRA Intelligence offices, and British Library.

The accused will re-appear before court on March 9, 2018 for further updates on the status of their case. Lena
