MASERU (TNS) – The Lesotho Basketball Association (LBA) on Sunday elected the Executive Committee that saw Francis Koma becoming President of the association unopposed at the Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena.
This was after most members of the outgoing Executive Committee decided to quit for various reasons. One of the reasons was that some members’ two-year term had expired.
However, Malehloa Thulo, who still had an opportunity to run for another term decided not to participate in the election, citing fatigue as the reason for opting out.
In that regard, most of the elected members stood unopposed, with the exception of two posts – Vice President and Table Official and Referee.
Fako Masupha was re-elected as Director of Development and he is the only member.
The new National Executive Committee stands as follows: Francis Koma – President, Vice President Tefo Mosala, Secretary General – Retselisitsoe Lephaila, Public Relations Officer – Ntoko Marake, Director of Development – Fako Masupha, Table Official and Referee – Bokang Pharela, and Director Women-In-Sports – Relebohile Lebatla.
This is not the first time Francis Koma assumes the leadership of Lesotho basketball. He commands a lot of respect in the basketball fraternity.
The outgoing secretary general, Palo Mohlotsane told Metro Sport that: “The event went well and it was blessed. Most of the seats were elected unopposed except for the Director Women In Sports position. Fako Masupha was the only member to be re-elected into the new committee. The committee will serve for two years.”
Koma said: “We are going to work hard to bring those happy basketball days. We want to return sponsors we previously had and also bring in new ones to help develop the game. We have to participate more in international tournaments to improve our game and the school league as it is part of our development goals.”
The outgoing committee comprised Molupe Mothepu as President, Vice President Sekhoane Moshabesha who resigned after getting a job offer in South Africa, Secretary General Palo Mohlotsane, Treasurer Nkhethuoa Makhorole, Public Relations Officer Ratsolo Molupe, Director of Development Fako Masupha, Table Official and Referee Nkabi Mosaase, and Director Women In Sports Malehloa Thulo.
Meanwhile, basketball supporters and players said they intend to train the media people so that they understand the game better in order to improve their basketball reporting skills. And by so doing, they would be advertising basketball.
