Despite the challenges faced by the athletes at High Altitude Summer marathon the past weekend, Leribe athletes have managed to be among the top best.
This was revealed by Sports Organiser Leribe Mr Makoekoe Mahanetsa on Tuesday.
He said that athlete ‘Mamohlahloe Lehapa managed to win position one in a five kilometre race.
In addition he elaborated that in the senior category, Talimo Monesa managed to be amongst the top ten in running 21 kilometers.
Malefetsane Malao was number ten under master category.
He said the athletes have improved compared to last year, saying it was the first time for two of the athletes to participate.
Talking about challenges, he said transport to Mokhotlong is still a big challenge as he was left behind.
He said: “Last year the athletes were left behind and they had to use their own transport to Mokhotlong as it was stated that the buses were full.”
He highlighted that the registration forms of the athletes are in most cases misplaced forcing them to fill up the new registration forms.
Mr Mahanetsa pointed out that one of the athletes did not take part as she did not have proof of payment though her misplaced registration form clearly stated the payment.
The High Altitude Summer Marathon was launched in 2003.
