LEFA: Phafane set for third term

The Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) incumbent President Advocate Salemane Phafane KC is set to retain his position at the association’s special elective conference scheduled at Bambatha Ts’ita Sports Arena on Saturday.
The LEFA Secretary General Mr. Mokhosi Mohapi said Advocate Phafane KC stands unopposed after nobody challenged him before last Friday’s deadline.
Mr. Mohapi said this shows that LEFA structures still have confidence in the incumbent president, saying even though he stands unopposed the election will still go ahead as per the association’s statutes.
“One would think that since there is only one candidate, there will be no elections. But what if someone comes up and says there were no elections as scheduled,” he asked.
He said there is only one business at the special conference – the LEFA elections.
Mr. Mohapi said those who are eligible to vote are all in the LEFA structures such as the District Football Association (DIFA) and other association’s sub-committee members.
Mr. Mohapi also said under Advocate Phafane KC leadership LEFA has seen many developments such as Likuena’s highest FIFA ranking (105 in 2014), the viability of the association’s assets, and an increase in the number of trained coaches.
Mr. Mohapi challenged Adv. Phafane’s critics saying he is hands on and always avails himself even at lower division.
The Secretary General added that even in situations when LEFA is not getting any subvention from the government, though it should be the case, the association is still financially stable under Adv. Phafane’s sound leadership.
Adv. Phafane will be the third LEFA President after the late Mr. Bambatha Ts’ita and Thabo Makakole passed on in a tragic car accident in 2005.
