The SOS Children’s Village in Moyeni has organised the African Child Day celebrations to be held at the Holy Trinity High School Hall next week Thursday.
The African Child Day will be commemorated on the theme ”2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for Children in Africa: Accelerating protection, empowerment, and Equal Opportunity”.
African Child Day is celebrated annually on June 16th.
The SOS Children’s Village Family Strengthening Programme Assistant, Mrs Sarah Maisa, said they aim to sensitise the Quthing community about the importance of children.
She said the day will be celebrated with among other activities a fun walk from Quthing Post Office to the Holy Trinity High School. There will also be a primary and high school debate on the topic “Girls Should be Given Equal Opportunity as Boys” and a poetry competition.
She said the winners of the competition will be awarded trophies. Ten 10 primary schools and eight high schools will participate in the competition.
The SOS Children’s Village in Quthing accommodates 113 children in the village and 648 children are under the Family Strengthening programme.
