Koneshe reaches Cwealth youth games in Bahamas

Mojela Koneshe (16) has failed to win a silverware at the 2017 Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Games currently on going.
Speaking in an interview, Lesotho Amateur Athletics Association (LAAA) Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mr. Sejanamane Maphathe said Koneshe was only able to go past the quarter-finals in 100 metres.
He said at the quarter-finals, Koneshe obtained second position after running the distance at 10:90 which was a bid slower than his personal best he made a week ago at the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Youth Championships held in Nairobi, Kenya.
Mr. Maphathe said at the semi-finals in Bahamas Koneshe finished in fifth position hence failed to reach the finals and therefore could not get even a single medal.
However, Mr. Maphathe said at only 16 Koneshe is a good prospect for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, where he will be 20 years.
“His performance was world class and he showed maturity this time after his fault start at the IAAF World Youth Championships where he made his personal best by reaching the semi-final at 10:80,” he commented.
Koneshe still has to run the 200 metres at the event and forms part of team Lesotho that includes Limakatso Mohale in athletics while others are Phomolo Lengola and Tlholohelo Mokhesi in boxing as well as Nyathi Motlojoa and Ramohanoe Ramohanoe tennis and cycling respectively.
The team Lesotho will return home on Thursday.
